The MABU Bridge Academy's first quarter classes were a HUUUUGE success. Thirty four students were enrolled in three courses – Precision Bidding Course – Andy Williams, Introduction to Two-Over-One (2/1) – Benny Patton, Declarer Play – Gloria Christler. All three courses were taught at the ABA Headquarters. Thanks to Willetta for making the space available to the Unit.
Plans are underway for the upcoming quarter. Because the spring and summer months are a busy time for most of us, with graduations, tournaments, and vacations, the Academy will not hold 6 or 8-week bridge courses; instead we plan to offer an 8 week series of 2 hour workshops - Bridge for the Advancing Player. These workshops are targeted for those players who would like to either learn new conventions and/or refine their skills and judgement in using conventions they already know. Enrollees should already play bridge and understand basic bidding, play, and defense. The bidding frameworks for the workshops will be 5 card majors and strong notrumps. The topics and conventions covered can be used effectively in either Standard American or 2/1 bidding methods. Students can enroll in all workshops or select individual course topics. The fee for each session is $5. Each session includes 1 hour of lecture/discussions and 1 hour of supervised play illustrating concepts covered in the lecture. The classes will be limited to 24 enrollees on a first come basis.
